Let me first preface this review by saying I met Stew Smith at an event in September he was volunteering his time at and he could not have been nicer and friendlier to me when I introduced myself to him. We talked for awhile and I could not be more impressed how down to earth and approachable he was.
That being said - I have owned his first book on Navy SEAL Training for years and have always considered it the Holy Grail of fitness and exercise routines. There is simply nothing out there better than that book. Whether you are training for BUDs, fitness events, obstacle course events, general fitness, his 1st book is a masterpiece in of itself, and I am not being overly dramatic in saying that. If you don't own that - GET IT!!!!
When I first heard that a companion book was coming out to augment the training routines in the first book - of course I immediately placed my pre-order and awaited the book like a kid does Santa Clause on Christmas morning. I received the book today and Santa did not disappoint.
This book is not meant to replace the first one - but is clearly described as Phase 2. The book clearly is meant to work w the first one - which makes it that much better and worth while. Stew did not sell out and just reprint the same workouts as in the 1st book - but created this book as addition to your arsenal in terms of overall fitness goals. This book adds weight training and other exercises to build up muscle and strength after a period of longer distance running/swimming/rucking as envisioned in the 1st book. Stew clearly explains in detail the need to constantly change routines after periods to avoid injuries and general burn out. The workouts and program are as clearly presented as in the 1st book.
